English Heritage adopts 3D GPR subsurface imaging technology from 3d-Radar
English Heritage awarded an open tender for a Multi-frequency Multi-channel Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) System to 3d Radar in March 2008. This system includes the GeoScope GPR system that generates high-resolution 3-dimensional images of buried objects and natural interface layers down to 2-3 meters depth. The system was delivered in Q1, 2008.
"This is groundbreaking news (for 3d Radar)" says the Managing Director Dr Egil Eide, "as 3d Radar moves further into the market segment of (non-invasive) Archaeology. The Multi-Channel Array technology developed by 3d-Radar is ideally suited for mapping subsurface archaeological structures."
English Heritage is the government appointed agency with responsibility for all aspects of the historic environment in England. The Geophysics Team of English Heritage uses a variety of techniques, including GPR, to assist with the management and research of many varied properties and archaeological sites in their care.
